Claud Concert Review: A Night to Remember at Cottey College

By: Nick Kent

On Tuesday, October 1, 2024, the Center for the Arts Auditorium at Cottey College in Nevada, Missouri, was electrified by the presence of Claud, a rising pop star. This event was a rare treat for the local community, where pop music concerts are few and far between due to the county’s strong agricultural roots and preference for country music. However, the Student Activities Committee at Cottey College, a liberal arts women’s college known for its commitment to diversity, inclusion, and global awareness, made this extraordinary event possible.

Cottey College has always strived to bring entertainment that resonates with its students, and with the introduction of their four-year Theater program focusing on Theater for Change, it was the perfect time to welcome a pop sensation like Claud to town. Claud, a talented singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, exceeded all expectations and delivered a performance that left the audience in awe.

From the moment the lights went up and the music started, the fans at the Cottey College Auditorium were treated to an unforgettable show. Claud, fronting a three-piece band, showcased their versatility by playing both the guitar and bass, often switching instruments with band member Hank. Drummer Frankie kept the rhythm tight throughout the concert, providing a solid foundation for Claud’s captivating performance.

The setlist included a mix of Claud’s popular songs such as “A Good Thing,” “Not About You,” “This Town,” “Soft Spot,” “Tommy,” “If I Were You,” and “Wish You Were Gay.” The audience, composed of enthusiastic fans and students, sang along and cheered with great enthusiasm, creating an electric atmosphere that resonated throughout the auditorium.

Claud, whose full name is Claud Mintz, is an American bedroom pop singer-songwriter from the suburbs of Chicago. They are known for their heartfelt lyrics and catchy melodies. Claud’s most popular songs, “Soft Spot” and “Wish You Were Gay,” have garnered significant attention and praise. Claud is signed to Phoebe Bridgers’ record label, Saddest Factory Records, which has been instrumental in their rise to fame.

Overall, the Claud concert at Cottey College was a resounding success, bringing a fresh wave of pop music to Nevada, Missouri, and leaving a lasting impression on everyone who attended. It was a night of music, joy, and community, proving that pop music has a place in every heart, no matter where you are.
